About Me

Hi, my name is Julianna Stephenson! I am originally from Fincastle, VA, and I am currently a senior at Washington and Lee University. I'm a journalism major with minors in education policy and digital culture and information. I am passionate about local education issues and aspire to be an education reporter.

During my time at Washington and Lee, I have enhanced my passion for journalism, media, and education. I am the co-editor-in-chief of the university's student newspaper, the Ring-tum Phi. I lead a staff of 12 editors, six staff writers and nearly 40 contributors. I also helped lead the organization's incorporation to achieve full editorial and financial independence. I primarily cover university admissions for the paper.

I have also served as a producer, education reporter, news anchor, and weather anchor for the Rockbridge Report, Washington and Lee's weekly live broadcast. As the education reporter, I produced multimedia broadcast packages and articles weekly, covering the county's reaction to Virginia's cell phone-free guidelines and the city's first-ever school board election. As a producer, I wrote the show, worked with the live shot crew, and ensured the broadcast was timely and written creatively. I then spent the summer as a producing intern for WDBJ7. I continued to use my news judgment to put together a cohesive broadcast, weaving together local and national stories.

In my experience as both a producer and editor-in-chief, I have honed my organizational skills and grown into a strong leader and communicator. I am also comfortable across platforms, writing web stories and telling compelling stories with video. With ever-changing multimedia tools, I continue to push myself to learn more and create better content.
