About Me

Hi, my name is Julianna Stephenson! I am originally from Fincastle, VA, and I am currently a junior at Washington and Lee University. I'm a journalism major with minors in education policy and digital culture and information.
During my time at Washington and Lee, I have enhanced my passion for journalism, media, and education. I am the co-editor-in-chief of the university's student newspaper, the Ring-tum Phi. In addition to writing, editing articles, and creating layouts, I lead a staff of 12 editors and 20 reporters. I also helped lead the organization's incorporation during summer 2024 to achieve full editorial and financial independence.
I also am very involved in the Rockbridge Report, which is a weekly live broadcast on local cable. I began my involvement during my first year at Washington and Lee as a weather anchor. During my junior year, I served as an education reporter, producing multimedia broadcast packages and articles weekly. Currently, I am a producer for the report. I write the show, work with our live shot, and ensure the broadcast is timely, written creatively, and is educational. On the weeks I do not write the show, I manage the website and post on several social media accounts to guarantee the local community is informed.
This past summer, I worked as a news intern for the Roanoke Times. I covered a variety of news and feature stories including articles on the Miss Virginia pageant, a USA cycling press conference, and large business purchases. I also wrote in-depth reports on Roanoke's water supply and the region's opioid crisis.
I look forward to refining my goals and experience through my studies and future internships.
